Conservation

The management of the Wing Coop places a great emphasis on conservation in our operations. We believe that as a business, we have a responsibility to minimize our environmental impact through conservation. Our continuous goal is to achieve improvement in our environmental practices and to encourage participation in conservation throughout all of our business relationships.

Better conservation practices have the additional benefit of reducing business costs over time. Our main environmental impact comes from our use of energy and water, food preparation, waste and associated transportation. The Wing Coop plans to implement conservation initiatives, while increasing awareness through improved staff engagement and training.

The 5 simple principles of our plan are as follows:

  • Purchase renewable energy where available.
  • Promote recycling and the use of recycled materials.
  • Minimize waste and the use of resources across the business.
  • Consider environmental implications of all business decisions.
  • Prefer business partners operating in an environmentally responsible manner.

So what IS the Wing Coop doing?

We're doing the best we can to operate an environmentally responsible restaurant.

  • Compact Fluorescent Lighting – Every CFL bulb can prevent more than 450 pounds of emissions from a power plant over its lifetime.
  • Energy Reducing Appliances - Many of our appliances use 1/2 of the normal appliance energy consumption.
  • Biodegradable Containers, Free of polystyrene foam ("Styrofoam") products.
  • Energy Saving Practices - We try to incorporate as many energy savings practices as possible - from maximizing refrigerator storage to washing full dish loads.
  • Green Power Choices - Wind Power makes up a significant portion of the Wing Coop’s electrical consumption.
  • Oil Recycling - The oil that cooks your chicken today, could be powering someone's auto tomorrow as a biodiesel fuel.
  • Green Power Choices - Wind Power makes up a portion of the Wing Coop’s electrical consumption.
  • Recycled Paper - We work hard to select paper that is at least 35% post consumer waste.
